Picture Canyon, 3/22/25, 8-11:30am Join us at Picture Canyon to see the variety this location has to offer! Now is the time to see wintering species and possibly some early migrants. Possible species include Cinnamon Teal, Green-winged Teal, Wilson’s Snipe, Acorn Woodpecker, Black Phoebe, Mountain Chickadee, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, White-breasted Nuthatch, Marsh Wren, Western Bluebird, Townsend’s Solitaire, Lincoln’s Sparrow, and Red-winged Blackbird. This location also offers great views of the canyon and some interesting petroglyphs!
We will meet in the parking area for the Picture Canyon Trailhead at 8:00am, which is found on Route 66 and N El Paso Flagstaff Rd. If taking I-40 east, take exit 204, then turn left onto Route 66, and take a right onto N El Paso Flagstaff Rd. Dirt trails will be sloped in some spots but is all still easy walking, and outhouses are located in the parking area. This is a larger spot with 2-3 miles of walking and can take up to 3 hours, but there will be trails to turn back at many points throughout the area. Be sure to bring sunscreen, walking shoes, a hat, binoculars, and water. For any questions please reach out to Abbie Brozich at 480-519-0538
