Walnut Canyon Lakes - Flagstaff - with Abbie

Join us at Walnut Canyon Lakes in Flagstaff for a relaxing morning of birding! We’ll walk along a paved 0.9 mi loop surrounding the water to observe the migration season. Likely migrants include Red-necked Phalarope, Common Yellowthroat, Yellow Warbler, Wilson’s Warbler, and Lincoln’s Sparrow. We also hope to get close looks at a variety of swallows and waterfowl, and other exciting species like Bald Eagle, Spotted Sandpiper, Rufous Hummingbird, and Lark Sparrow.

We will meet at 7:30am on the north end of the ponds where parking is available. No bathrooms are provided, and be sure to bring sunscreen, binoculars, walking shoes, water, and a hat. For additional questions feel free to contact abbrozich@gmail.com 

Directions: Take exit 201 off I-40 and drive south along N Country Club Dr. Turn left onto E Old Walnut Canyon Dr and pull off to the first parking available next to the ponds.

Abbie is a student at NAU who has been pursuing her love of birds since age 12. Born and raised in Arizona, she has grown up learning about the wonderful diversity this state has to offer. She started working with birds through a rescue and rehabilitation facility caring for both native and exotic species, and moved on to help conduct bird surveys as an intern with Arizona Game and Fish.
