Sedona Christmas Bird Count (CBC), Friday, December 15th from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Compiler is Rich Armstrong. To be on a team you must contact Rich: richarmstrong47@gmail.com

What is a cbc - it is a 15 mile diameter circle where we try to count as many birds in the circle as we can. for instance sedona goes roughly from the last traffic circle before oak creek canyon down to the ranger station, over to cornville, out bill gray road to the boonies and back to sedona. a coordinator divides the circle into sections and assigns a leader and up to 3 other people to form a team. the leader of the team coordinates the team on when and where to meet, and maps out how to do the territory. mostly it is all day with many many many short stops counting birds. at the end there is usually a countdown dinner where teams report their highlights.

What can you do (all FREE!)

a. lead a section (each cbc has about 7-10 sections and therefore needs 7-10 leaders)

b. be on a section where a leader and usually 3 other people bird all day counting every bird - sort of an all day field trip but only 4 people (this means each cbc needs about 20-30 people to join leaders) - you do not need to be a great birder to be on a team.

c. be a feeder watcher as in just bird your yard or maybe your street for all day or part of a day or even just an hour - if you are here on those days, and if you are in a count circle, surely you can bird your yard part of the day? all 3 cbcs need people to be on teams mostly, but also need more feeder watchers.

Feel free to contact the leader or stay tuned for future emails as they get closer.

There is a post-count dinner at the Armstrong house. It's a fun time for teams to tell stories of the day's adventures. What birds they saw? What birds they didn't, but expected, to see?
