Kachina Wetlands - Monsoon Season Birding

Saturday, July 15th (NOTE DATE CHANGE FROM 16TH TO 15TH!)

8 am - 10 am

During the monsoon season, Kachina Wetlands, near Flagstaff, is a beautiful place to go birding, not only for the birds, but for the rich diversity of wildflowers. For birds, we can expect to see Pied-billed Grebes, Ruddy Ducks, Great Blue Herons, Yellow-headed Blackbirds, Common Yellowthroats, Ospreys, and more. To join the trip, meet at the entrance to Kachina Wetlands at the end of Tovar Trail. Be prepared to walk approximately 2 miles on a level, gravel road. It is wheelchair accessible, although it is uneven in places. Bring binoculars if you have them, water, sunscreen, and a hat. No bathrooms are available.

 How to get there: From I-17 south of Flagstaff, take the Kachina Village exit. Immediately turn right, onto Tovar Trail. Follow Tovar north for one mile, and turn right into the dirt parking area. You will see a large green water tower near the entrance.
