Jail Trail - Searching for SW Willow Flycatcher and Yellow-billed Cuckoo – Saturday, July 1st - 7:00 – 8:30 am
Meet at the Jail Trail parking lot at 7:00 am. We’ll head down to the Verde to find suitable nesting habitat for these ‘feisty birds’ (per Anne Pelligrini.) We hope to hear it singing their hoarse “fitz-bew” from a high perch in the willows. Or their dry “whit” or a burry zip, “which sounds similar to someone quickly zipping up a jacket.” https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Willow_Flycatcher/sounds.Listening for cuckoos will be another priority:https://ebird.org/species/yebcuc
We will walk on dirt paths, at times we will be off trail and over some very sandy and rocky areas. Wear hat, sunscreen, binoculars. Bring enough water, snack and walking sticks if you need them. No facilities. Leader: Kay Hawklee. Info: khawklee@gmail.com or text: 432-703-0007
